WELCOME, SPRING<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Tired gray piles
\nof granular snow
\nsit slumped by the roadside
\nwaiting to melt
\nin the warm noonday sun.<\/p>\n

Beneath them
\nthe slender
\nand varicose
\nleaves of crocus
\ntentatively, cautiously,
\npoke their heads up
\nthrough the soil.<\/p>\n

With each day,
\nthe piles recede
\nand the grass-like blades
\ngrow taller.<\/p>\n

Eventually
\n(finally!)
\nthe snow does melt
\nand the crocus do
\npop out
\nto welcome Spring.<\/p>\n

I was inspired by April’s being National Poetry Month<\/a><\/strong>, and by the crocus photos I took recently, and the unseasonably warm & sunny weather we’ve been having of late, to write and post this poem today \u2014 Welcome, Spring!
